Radspannerei Köhler
Unfortunately, in recent years a number of wheel-building businesses have ceased trading. As a result of these incidents, our love of vintage cars, our close ties and geographical proximity to the Köhler company, we have decided to continue the Köhler wheel clamping workshop with all its expertise under our name alongside our actual spoke production. Mr Köhler will continue to support us with his decades of expertise.
Please note
Although the spoked wheels are balanced and tensioned, after a certain time and depending on the load, driving style and performance of the vehicle, unsteadiness can occur. The constant pulling and unloading of the spokes per wheel rotation causes the spokes to ‘settle’. This makes retensioning, re-centring and balancing necessary.
A spoked wheel is and remains ‘alive’. For example, during a race at the Nürburgring, a professional film camera recorded how a Borrani wheel on a vehicle moved almost a whole centimetre off centre and then returned to its original position after the bend.
Motocross riders, for example, also only use spoked wheels, as only these guarantee the necessary elasticity.
In short: spoked wheels require constant care.
After approx. 7 years, the tyre gradually loses its softeners. This means that the tyre no longer has any or enough grip, especially on wet roads. It is irrelevant whether the tread of the tyre is still good. The tyre should then definitely be replaced. Valves are always replaced when tyres are fitted.
